Public Art for Lujiazui on behalf of Lujiazui Central Financial District Development Corporation, is calling artist to integrate art in Shanghai. There are 29 potential locations (i.e. sites) for the call of submissions in varies genres. It is also possible to submit a proposal without specifying any particular site. *Please choose “Free” in category during registration.The calls for submission will stay for open for mailed submissions until 30 September, 2016The commissioned artwork must be completed by the end of August, 2017 until end of December, 2017.  Please refer to the information of each site's submission schedule.The commissioned artists will be announced through the website by the beginning of January, 2016.The commissioned artist of each site will be awarded USD12,000 (or CHY 78,000) *This includes artist’s fees plus travel and accommodation costs incurred in the installation of the artwork.Production and installation of the selected artworks will be covered by the organizer.The total budget of the artwork will be based on the submitted budget and agreed after discussions and evaluations between the commissioned artists and the organizer.

Born in 1957. As curator, Jean de Loisy has held a variety of positions in a wide range of cultural institutions. His positions include a curator at the Pays de la Loire Fonds Regional d'Art Contemporain, (1983-1986), the Pays de la Loire Ateliers Internationaux [International Studios]; (1983-1987), Nimes museum (1989-1991), the Fondation Cartier (1990-1994), a curator at the Centre Georges Pompidou (1994-1997).
He has been a member of numerous councils and committees including the national committee responsible for public commissions (2005-2007), the artistic council of the Estuaire
project (2007-2011), the technical committee of FRAC Aquitaine (2008- ), the board of directors of the Grand Palais (2010-2011), and the scientific committee of the Palais de Tokyo (2008-2011). He was appointed as a President of the Palais de Tokyo in June 2011.
As Director of Commissions and Public Projects at White Cube (since 2012) Andrea Schlieker initiates collaborations with a diverse range of public and private organizations, as well as municipal and Public Art agencies in Europe, Asia and the US. She conceived and curated the Folkestone Triennial, the UK’s largest exhibition of newly commissioned works in the public realm by acclaimed and emerging international artists in 2008 and 2011, involving a total of 41 new commissions of sculpture, film, installation, sound and performance. She has worked on a number of high profile exhibitions and site-specific commissions including the British Art Show6 (2005-2006); Fourth Plinth Project (2003-05); Rachel Whiteread's Holocaust Memorial, Vienna (2000) and the Millennium Dome Sculpture Park (2000). She has been Artistic Adviser for British Land and Moore London which has resulted in a large number of permanent commissions across London.
FANG Zhenning is a well-known independent curator, artist and critic; currently based in Beijing. He was the curator of Chinese Pavilion at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia in 2012. Member of Curatorial Committee, China Artists Association. Member of Architectural Media and Communication Committee, Architecture Society of China .Fang graduated from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 1982; He now lectures at the CAFA School of Architecture and School of Design.
Since 2009, Fang has curated a series of Chinese Contemporary Art and Architecture Exhibitions in Europe, and played an active and important role in promotion the understanding of Chinese Contemporary Architecture in the World. In 2014, he was invited by Rem Koolhaas, curator of the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale, to participate in the elements of architecture of the Central Pavilion AMO workshop with his study of modernity of Yingzao Fashi.

Registration and Submission of Proposals

Only one entry can be submitted per person for each site.
※Submission for multiples sites is possible, please register respectively for each submission.
Period of Registration: 1 June – 30 September, 2016.

Submissions must be printed on A4-sized paper, within 20 pages including items A) ~ E)

All queries regarding the project and the call should be submitted via this website. (We do not take queries by telephone).
1st submission deadline of enquiries: 30 June, 2016       Answers will be expected on 10 July, 2016.
2nd submission deadline of enquiries: 31 July, 2016       Answers will be expected on 15 August, 2016.


On-site Briefings to be hosted by Fram Kitagawa (Art Director of the Project) will be held at the project site in Shanghai, China.

Eligibility of Applications: Only available to those who have registered for the call.
※ Information kit to be distributed at the on-site briefings and relevant Q&A will be uploaded on the website together with the second round of the frequent Q&A. (15 August, 2016)
※ Entrants can submit proposals without participating the on-site briefing.
※ Participation of the on-site briefing session does not affect the decision of the selection committee.


Through the first screening on the submissions, up to three proposals will be shortlisted for each site.
Shortlisted artists will be contacted by the organizer by the end of December, 2016, if there are any questions regarding their submissions.
The selected artists will be announced on this website in the beginning of January 2017.
*The selected artists will be noticed individually by the end of December 2016.
*Participation in the on-site briefing does not affect the decision of the selection committee.

Commissions and Production and Installation Costs

The selected artist for each site will be awarded USD12,000 (or CNY 78,000)(including tax)
*This amount includes the artist fee, plus the travel and accommodation expenses incurred for the installation of the work at the site.
The production and installation costs will be covered by the organizer.
•The budget for the production and installation of the work will be decided based on the submitted estimate and after discussions and examinations between the artist and the organizer.

Terms and Conditions

The proposal should consider the conditions (including location, size, weight, etc.) stated in the information kit of each site (perspective drawings, plans and sections, etc.)
The proposed work should be completed by the end of September (Phase 1) or the end of December (Phase 2), 2017. The completion date depends on the site.
*The concrete completion date will be decided through discussions after the selection. .
